Recovery Worship

We begin at 6:45pm in the Fireside Room. It’s a clunky start because some are still finishing dinner across the hall at the Lyndale Community Dinner. Pastor Meta hollers a little after 6:40pm to remind some of the diners. Others are coming in the blue door in the parking lot and you can hear their footsteps down the stairs until they come around the corner.

Then we gather in a circle and receive welcome. The service is about 45 minutes long and includes some traditional worship elements like confession and forgiveness, Holy Communion (homemade bread or gluten-free wafers and grape juice), and sharing the peace. We sing. We pray. Each season we try a new style and decide together what we like about that music and they ways we encountered recovery resources within the service.

That’s the neat thing about this ministry being so young. It hasn’t been nailed down yet and there is room to experiment along the way. During the season of Easter we celebrated the movement from death to new life. This summer we worked with The Twelve Steps, Psalms, and Taize inspired music. Now we’re in the Season of Gratitude, giving thanks for the Holy Spirit’s work through recovery.
