Worship

God comes into our lives in many ways. For centuries, Christians have believed that the most powerful expression of this gracious presence occurs in worship. In the simple gestures and actions of singing, praying, proclaiming, offering and sacramental sharing, we are met and known and loved by God in Christ. Early Christians called these gestures and actions the Eucharist, a word closely related to the New Testament word for grace: charis. For them the Eucharist was a service of thanksgiving, a grateful celebration of grace. It is this spirit of thankful praise which underline and shapes our worship. As God's people in this time and place, we gather to celebrate and witness to our faith that he who died and rose again is truly among us as God's gift of grace.

Children in Worship

Zion encourages children to participate in worship. Children learn best through participation and the experience of worship. In order for your child/children to fully benefit from worship, we invite you to sit close to the front. Children’s bulletins are available from the ushers, activity bags can be found by the coat hooks at the main sanctuary entrance and “Scribble Paper for Little Lutherans” can be found in your pew rack.

Nursery Care

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church provides nursery care to those who are participating in programs within the church building. Our church nursery is staffed by our Nursery Coordinator and parent/adult/youth volunteers. Our nursery is available to children from newborn to five years of age. The Nursery is located on the main level and is open from 9:45am to 11:15am each Sunday morning and from 6:45pm to 8:15pm on Sunday evenings.

When using Zion’s nursery, we ask that you sign your child/children in and out of the nursery. When signing in, please make sure an adult is present and is aware that your child has arrived before leaving the nursery. We ask that all children be picked up following the worship service. To ensure your child’s safety, children must be picked up by a parent/guardian or another authorized adult. Each time a child is brought to the nursery, that child will need to be signed in and out.

We provide Cheerios, animal crackers, goldfish crackers and/or club crackers for snacks.

Sunday School

Sunday School at Zion meets every week from early September through the end of May. We feel it’s important for an entire family to hear the good news of God's love in an age appropriate setting. Early in the worship service, the children are invited to go to Sunday School while adults hear the sermon during Sunday worship service. Sunday School teachers share the gospel with children using discussion, games and art projects. Children four years of age through sixth grade can attend Sunday School. Upon completion of the adult sermon, children are brought back to the worship service.

Communion

In his Small Catechism, Martin Luther describes the benefits of communion: “The words ‘given for you’ and ‘shed for you . . . for the forgiveness of sin’ show us that forgiveness of sin, life and salvation are given to us in the sacrament [of communion] through these words, because where there is forgiveness of sin, there is also life and salvation.”

At Zion, communion is offered every Sunday. We practice an open table - all are welcome and invited to share in the gift of God’s grace and mercy.
