“Confirmation marks the completion of the congregation’s program of confirmation ministry; a period of instruction in the Christian faith as confessed in the teaching of the Lutheran Church. Those who have completed this program were made members of the Church in Baptism. Confirmation includes a public profession of faith into which the candidates were baptized, thus underscoring God’s action in their Baptism.” (Lutheran Book of Worship, p. 198).
Those entering seventh grade are invited and encouraged to participate in Zion’s Confirmation Ministry. Zion’s Confirmation Ministry is a two year program where youth/students will participate in a weekly group where they will learn and experience more about what it means to be a Christian.
Zion’s goals for Confirmation are to help youth, families and leaders over the next 2 years:
- gain a basic understanding of the Bible (Old & New Testaments) and Martin Luther’s Small Catechism
- develop a sense of connection with their congregation and the greater Church
- gain skills in dealing with doubt, discerning and expressing faith and in making healthy choices and life decisions
- appreciate the theological value of the biblical story
- value the Bible and Small Catechism as living books and tools for daily living
Zion’s Confirmation class meets at 6:30pm on Wednesday nights during the school year. Students are invited to come early for the Lyndale Community Dinner which begins at 6:00pm.
