We're a little church with a big heart. We have one worship service on Sunday mornings. When you visit, you'll find people who sing with gusto, love their neighborhood, and shake hands with just about everyone when it's time to pass the peace.
Wednesdays are wonderful. Our cook and volunteers prepare a healthy and tasty dinner for many. Some children arrive early and visit the ZOOM Library. Kids know they are welcome to take a book home to borrow or keep every time they come to Zion!
At 6:00pm Pastor Meta says grace and we dig in. All are welcome at the Lyndale Community Dinner, so the banquet room is filled with church members, neighbors, and residents of ZOOM House next door. Sometimes our LCD Coordinator and Cook offer nutrition tips or educational opportunities during the meal, but there’s still plenty of time to chat with new friends. Recovery Worship begins at 6:45pm across the hall. This service began three years ago and is still a great experiment. We integrate elements like the 12 Steps and the Serenity Prayer with a casual liturgy and good music. Recovery Worship draws both members and visitors who define recovery all kinds of ways. We are all broken and recovering from something. We are all forgiving and being forgiven. Recovery Worship is for anyone and everyone looking to explore these ideas through worship.
Two other faith communities use Zion’s worship space on Sundays. Many members of Zion agree that it’s a wonderful feeling to leave church knowing others will still be praising God and making good music together throughout the day.
Our building is home to many community events and organizations during the week. Youth Farm and Market Project rents office space upstairs and local youth are usually cooking delicious meals using fresh produce on Monday evenings. Tuesday and Thursday evenings you'll hear squeals and giggles coming from the nursery where kids play. We host one of the only ESL programs in Minneapolis that offers childcare, so kids play safely while their parents work hard learning English. We also host the Pillsbury AA group that meets on Friday evenings. Zion is a busy place!
Zion Lutheran Church has been part of the Lyndale community since 1893 and has been a Reconciling in Christ Congregation since 1991. The diversity of our congregation and community enriches us greatly and we invite all people to share this tradition with us. We believe there's a place for you at Zion. Come and see!
